The Salzburg Residence - also known as the Old Residence - is located in the heart of Salzburg's old town and has served as the residence and representative building of Salzburg's prince archbishops over the centuries. Formerly the center of spiritual and secular power, the property is now owned by the State of Salzburg, is managed by the Salzburg Castles and Palaces Management and is leased to the DomQuartier Salzburg and the University of Salzburg.

The history of the Salzburg Residence
From the center of power in Salzburg to a cultural & university location
The Residenz zu Salzburg was built under Prince Archbishop Wolf Dietrich von Raitenau around 1600 as a representative building and was the spiritual and secular center of power in Salzburg until the dissolution of the Archbishopric of Salzburg in 1803. Today, the building complex is owned by the Province of Salzburg and is leased to various companies.
